Oh my God, Terminator 4!

They’re releasing a Terminator 4!

And I mean that in the best way possible.

I’ve been a fan of the Terminator movies since seeing the first one years ago. I can’t remember how old I was when I saw it, but it certainly grabbed my attention. I mean come on, what sci-fi nerd wouldn’t want a movie with time travel AND robots? Each movie has been better than the first, evem though the plot has remained the same throughout: Skynet, an AI developed by the US military in the late 20th century, is intent on killing John Connor, leader of the human resistance in the future. Skynet sends cyborgs known as :”terminators” back in time to at first kill John’s mother before he is born, then in the next two movies to kill John as a teenager and then as an adult. Each time the resistance is able to send a lone protector ro thwart Skynet’s plans.

Before I continue, here is a shot plot synopsis of the three current Terminator movies

Advanced robotic life forms roam the ground and air attempting to wipe out what’s left of humanity after an AI system known as Skynet launched a nuclear attack on its enemies: humans. In an attempt to kill the leader of the human resistance, Skynet sends an advanced robotic life form, known as a cyborg, to kill his mother, sarah Connor, before she can conceive and give birth to her son, John. The resistance sends a lone warrior back to protect Sarah and thwart Skynet’s plans.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

John Connor is now a teenager. Sarah has been institutionalized having been deemed mentally unstable after attempting to destroy the headquarters of a computer company developing an advanced computer system the likes of which humanity has never seen. Again, Skynet sends a terminator in an attempt to kill John and change the future. The human resistance sends its own captured Terminator to protect John.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Cyberdyne, the company developing Skynet, has been destroyed. John thinks he is safe, but unknown to John, research on Skynet still continues, and is nearing completion. Computer systems across the globe are affected by a very aggressive and apparently intelligent virus. A new form of terminator appears, but as John cannot be located, the terminator murders John’s future lieutenants. The terminator eventually catches up with John, but the future human resistance is again able to send their own terminator to protect John. He learns that even though his mother and previous robotic friend destroyed Cyberdyne, research on Skynet is still being done at the Pentagon. He learna that his destiny was never to stop Skynet at this time, merely to survive the nuclear attack, rally the remnants of the human race and take on the machines that rise  from the ashes.

Now for Termtinator 4. What happens is anyone’s guess. The plot synopsis on IMDB says that Skynet has wiped out most of humanity in a nuclear holocaust (the missiles can be seen being launched after Skynet takes control of the military’s nuclear missile systems at the end of Terminator 3). The future John has been led ro believe in by his mother has been changed in part by the appearance of a stranger who’s last memory is of being on death row. John must now decide whether this person has been sent from the future or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final assault against mankind, John and the mysterious stranger embark on an odyssey deep into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where the they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

I just hope the plot translates well into both the acting and the action. I’d really hatt to waste my money on a bad Terminator movie.

Until next time
