Freelancer: A roleplaying journey
Log Entry: 19 March Sirius Year 819
I apologise for the late start, dear log, but so much has happened to me since I enlisted in the navy. I was but a mere trader, but a passing navy cruiser captain noticed my skills as I took on a dozen Liberty Rogues in the void between Norfolk Shipyard and the Texas Jumpgate. He must have sent holodata to Naval Command, because the very next day, I was contacted by Naval High Command and asked to attend a briefing at Westpoint Military Academy. Wespoint! Only the best and brightest attend Westpoint! Little did I know it was to be a PERSONAL MEETING with the Admiral himself! All went well, because the next thing I know I’m the captain of a Liberty Gunboat, with the possibility of joining the elite Navy Guard and in command of a cruiser.
After choosing my crew (not many get to do that, and it wasn’t easy. I had so many recruit profiles to look at), we were given clearance to leave the station. My heart was pumping in my chest so loud I thought the rest of the crew would hear it as I gave the command to undock. It wasn’t long until we received our first assignment: a bunch of Rogues had been hassling trader traffic near the California gate. And I must admit, with 20-30 Rogues firing lasers, missiles and mines at us, my ship and crew performed admirably. They were so cool under pressure. But the best was yest to come.
High command contacted me soon after. Little did I know at the time that one of my crew, still unknown to me, was actually a Navy Guard agent. All High Command would say is the report they received was “extremely favourable” and that “I was on the list”. If I keep my head under such difficult and extreme circumstances, I’ll be one of the elite: a Liberty Navy Guard cruiser captain. And no one I know has ever been enlisted to the Guard from the civillian population. I must find out who this agent is, out of sheer curiosity. My eyes and ears will be on the lookout.
